The raw wholesale auctions that set Ohio's Standard Service Offer. Each utility group runs a competitive bidding process under PUCO oversight; the clearing prices below feed directly into the Price-to-Compare you see on customer bills.
Clearing price ≠ your PTC. The auction clearing price is a wholesale energy rate; the consumer-facing Price-to-Compare adds capacity riders, line-loss factors, and per-territory adjustments. A 12-month auction at 8.5¢ can land on customer bills as a 9.5¢ PTC once those layers are stacked. See /history for the customer-facing rate over time.
Date approximate (early April 2026). The current Apr–May 2026 PTC of 10.70¢/kWh reflects the trailing 2025/2026 DY auction; the 2026/2027 DY rate effective June 1, 2026 will reflect the blend of this auction and the December 2025 auction.
Auction date is approximate (December 2025). Duke's ESP V eliminated 36-month products and shifted the second-of-DY auction earlier to reduce supplier risk. Public clearing-price disclosure was not located in primary sources.
Procures supply for the 2026/2027 delivery year (June 1, 2026 onward). Will set the PTC that replaces the current 9.94¢/kWh starting June 2026. The December 2025 PJM capacity auction subsequently cleared at the FERC cap of $333.44/MW-day, which will further pressure later auctions in the ESP V ladder.
Auction was delayed from April 16 to April 29 amid rising wholesale prices. Combined with October 15, 2024 results, set the AES Ohio 2025/2026 PTC at 9.45¢/kWh (a 0.625¢ increase, ~$5/month for typical residential customer).
The resulting residential PTC of $0.104450/kWh (effective June 1, 2025) was a 30% jump over the prior $0.080174 — driven primarily by the PJM 2025/2026 BRA capacity clearing price spike. Small-commercial Rate DM rose 22% to $0.109549/kWh.
PUCO accepted results March 5, 2025. Auction starting-price band was disclosed as $135–$185/MWh, signaling much higher capacity-driven costs. Combined with the October 2024 auction it set the 9.97¢/kWh PTC for June 2025–May 2026; PTC then rose to 10.52¢/kWh on July 1, 2025.
PUCO approved next-day. Combined with the Oct 2024 result, set the customer-facing PTCs that took effect June 2025 (Ohio Edison ~9.35¢, CEI ~9.11¢, Toledo Edison ~9.52¢). Tranche MW estimated from the published ~104 MW per-tranche definition × 25 tranches.
PUCO accepted results October 30, 2024. First AEP Ohio SSO auction held after the June 2024 PJM Base Residual Auction cleared at $269.92/MW-day (vs. $28.92 prior year), so capacity costs entered the procurement at much higher levels. Blended with the March 2025 auction to produce the 9.97¢/kWh PTC effective June 1, 2025.
Cleared at 8.805¢/kWh, an increase of more than 1.7¢ over the April 2024 result, reflecting rising PJM capacity prices from the July 2024 BRA. Each tranche represented ~3.97 MW; 50 tranches procured (~198.5 MW). PUCO accepted results October 30, 2024.
First FirstEnergy auction held after the July 2024 PJM Base Residual Auction cleared at $269.92/MW-day for DY 2025/2026 — an 833% increase over the prior year. Cleared ~9% above the March 2024 12-month result for the same delivery year, reflecting the capacity-price shock.
Cleared at $75.08/MWh. PUCO presented the result on April 3, 2024. The blended 2024/2025 DY price came in roughly 18% below the 2023/2024 DY weighted average — the largest annual decrease at Duke since 2009.
Brakey Energy reported AES Ohio's 2024/2025 weighted SSO price was 1.64–3.36¢ below the 2023/2024 price. Approximate clearing price (~7.07¢/kWh) inferred from the public statement that October 2024 cleared 1.7+¢ higher than April 2024.
First 24-month product procurement under the revised tranche structure. The premium over the Feb 2024 12-month price reflected longer tenor and the looming PJM 25/26 capacity auction (which cleared at a record $269.92/MW-day in July 2024).
First auction under the PUCO-approved ESP V (Opinion and Order April 3, 2024). Introduced the 36-month product to lengthen the procurement ladder. PUCO reported the AEP weighted-average DY 2024/25 SSO price was 1.64–3.36¢/kWh below DY 2023/24 — yielding the ~6.9¢/kWh PTC effective April 1, 2024.
Sharp drop versus the 2023 cycles — mild winter, soft natural gas, and PJM capacity prices still at historic lows ($28.92/MW-day for DY 24/25). Drove the summer-2024 PTC reduction PUCO and FirstEnergy publicized.
First auction conducted under interim relief while ESP V was pending. Procured 50% of load split between 24-month and 12-month products. Combined with the March 2024 auction to produce the 6.9¢/kWh PTC for the 2024/2025 delivery year (down ~33% from prior year).

First fully laddered auction under ESP 4. Procured a mix of 12- and 24-month products to reduce price volatility. Tranche-weighted average across both products approximately 8.77¢/kWh. The 24-month tranches carried into the 2024/2025 delivery year.
Final of three blended auctions (Oct 2022, Jan 2023, Mar 2023) feeding the Jun 2023 PTC, which averaged $101.08/MWh weighted across tranches. Materially lower than Oct 2022 — markets had digested the invasion shock. Specific date approximated to March 2023 cycle.
Cleared at $88.55/MWh, ~26% below the November 2022 auction. Blended with the November 2022 result to produce the ~10.27¢/kWh PTC for the 2023/2024 delivery year. PUCO accepted the results March 8, 2023.
Bridge auction conducted under interim relief while ESP 4 settlement was being finalized. PUCO accepted results March 8, 2023. Clearing price not separately published; combined with November 2022 results to set the 2023/2024 PTC of 10.807¢/kWh.
Held under PUCO scrutiny after NOPEC-related concerns about market disruption nearly delayed the auction. Cleared materially below the October 2022 cycle as gas forwards softened. Blended with the Oct 2022 result to set the June 2023 PTC.
Cleared at $82.79/MWh — about 28% below the September 2022 auction. Brakey Energy reported the weighted DY 2023/2024 average price across both auctions at 8.94¢/kWh, ~59% above the 2022/2023 DY weighted price.
First SSO auction under AES Ohio's new ESP 4 framework, which moved to twice-yearly laddered auctions. Cleared at 11.34¢/kWh — high relative to subsequent auctions reflecting tight wholesale conditions in late 2022.
Held under ESP IV. Cleared at $119.98/MWh, hedging 45% of the 2023/2024 SSO load. The high clearing price drove the ~10.3¢/kWh blended PTC that hit bills in June 2023 and triggered the widely reported ~30% rate hike.
Highest FirstEnergy SSO clearing price in recent memory. Driven by post-invasion European gas demand pulling LNG out of the Atlantic basin and elevated PJM forward curves. Result was the dramatic ~110% PTC increase that took effect June 2023 — the catalyst for NOPEC briefly suspending its standard product.
Tranche-weighted average winning bid was $115.75/MWh, but the auction failed to clear all tranches. The 20 unfilled tranches rolled to the subsequent (Jan 2023) auction.
April 2022 auction procured 50 tranches at a tranche-weighted average of approximately 12.25¢/kWh. Wholesale energy supply prices rose sharply in this period due to natural gas spikes. Combined with prior auctions to set the SSO for the 2022/2023 delivery year.
