KWH Tax Rider
AEP Ohio
Current Rate
0.3000¢/kWh
Est. 1999
Recovers Ohio excise tax on electricity consumption.
📜 History & Background
AEP Ohio's KWH Tax Rider recovers the same Ohio state excise tax on electricity consumption as FirstEnergy's SKT rider. The Ohio kWh tax was enacted with deregulation (SB 3, 1999) and applies uniformly to electricity consumption throughout the state. AEP Ohio's rate of 0.3¢/kWh differs slightly in presentation from FirstEnergy's 0.465¢/kWh rate — this difference may reflect how the utilities present the tax relative to their tariff structures. The underlying state tax is the same.
⚙️ How It Works
Every kWh consumed by AEP Ohio customers is subject to the Ohio kWh excise tax, remitted to the state. AEP Ohio collects and remits this through the KWH Tax Rider.
🔒 If You Switch Suppliers
Non-bypassable — the tax applies regardless of supplier. It may also appear on your competitive supplier's bill.
