Generation Service (SSO)

AES Ohio

Current Rate

9.4500¢/kWh

Est. 1999

AES Ohio's default generation supply rate. Replaced by your supplier's rate when you switch to a third-party supplier.

📜 History & Background

AES Ohio (formerly Dayton Power & Light, or DP&L) serves the Dayton metro area and surrounding Miami Valley region. After decades as an independent Ohio utility, DP&L was acquired by AES Corporation in 2011. The utility's standard service offer (SSO) is its default generation rate for residential customers who have not switched to a competitive supplier. AES Ohio's generation rate (approximately 9.45¢/kWh through July 2026) is established through PUCO Electric Security Plan proceedings. The G10 tariff schedule (Standard Offer Rate, effective June 2025) sets the current generation rate.

⚙️ How It Works

AES Ohio's GEN/SSO rate is its Price to Compare — the per-kWh generation charge for default service customers. Unlike AEP Ohio, AES Ohio recovers transmission costs separately through the T8 rider.

If You Switch Suppliers

Bypassable — switching to a competitive supplier replaces this charge with your supplier's rate. AES Ohio's service territory includes the Dayton area, which has an active competitive electricity market.
