Connecticut Attorney General William Tong and the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority approved a finalized Assurance of Voluntary Compliance with Town Square Energy LLC resolving allegations of deceptive marketing practices including misrepresenting the standard service rate, enrolling customers without consent, deploying agents who falsely claimed to be utility employees, and soliciting at public housing in violation of no-trespassing signs. Between January 2019 and October 2020 Town Square charged approximately 29,000 customers per month roughly $2 million more than the standard service rate.
