Recovers costs of major storm damage repair and restoration.

📜 History & Background

AES Ohio's Storm Cost Recovery Rider (D30) recovers costs of major storm damage repair and restoration. Large storm events — ice storms, high-wind events, tornadoes — can cause hundreds of millions of dollars in distribution system damage that falls outside the utility's normal O&M budget. Ohio utilities can petition PUCO for storm cost recovery riders to amortize these extraordinary costs over multiple years rather than absorbing them in a single year's financials. D30 specifically covers costs from qualifying major storms that damaged AES Ohio's distribution system.

⚙️ How It Works

A fixed monthly charge of $1.82/month per residential customer that amortizes approved storm restoration costs over a defined recovery period. Once the approved amount is fully recovered, the rider is eliminated.

🔒 If You Switch Suppliers

Non-bypassable — storm recovery costs are distribution charges applicable to all customers.
